Teeth Whitening

Do you feel like having whiter and brighter teeth?

Would you like to enhance your appearance without invasive treatments?

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a very conservative cosmetic dental procedure. It is non-invasive, with treatment options being carried in-office (in the dental clinic) or at home. Teeth whitening can restore the luster of your discoloured teeth and help you get back your beautiful smile. Indeed, a beautiful smile will project confidence and health!

Who is suitable for Teeth Whitening?

Almost everyone is suitable to undergo a teeth whitening procedure. However, some darker shades of teeth are much more resistant to whitening treatments. Teeth with dark gray shades, especially tetracycline discolourations, are the most resistant to teeth whitening. We employ objective and reliable digital spectrophotometry technology, in addition to specialized shade guide charts, during the consultation phase, to advise and guide you on the most suitable form of teeth whitening.

If the teeth are deemed to be too severely discoloured for whitening to be effective, porcelain veneers (see porcelain veneers) are an excellent option.

Types of Teeth Whitening systems

In-Office Whitening

At your appointment, we will first freshen up your teeth with a thorough scaling and polishing procedure. We then proceed to place protective barriers and gel coatings on your lips, cheeks and gums, so that the high-concentration whitening gel only contacts your teeth. The gel is absorbed into the teeth and further enhanced with a blue LED lamp that will be shined directly onto the teeth, so that whitening is efficiently achieved. After an hour, you can expect 3 to 7 levels of shades whiter.

Home Whitening

For patients who present with rather good looking teeth and wish to enhance their smile for added “oomph” without incurring too much financial cost, home whitening is a good option.

We will molds of your teeth and fabricate customized whitening trays which will fit snugly to your teeth. Syringes of home whitening gel will be prescribed for you to fill the trays. You will wear the trays, which act like a “reservoir” for the whitening gel, for about 30 mins. The gel enters your teeth and whitens them from the inside-out.

Home whitening gel systems are of a much lower concentration compared to in-office whitening gels. This means that it usually will take about 2 to 3 weeks before you can achieve the bright smile you desire.

There are some benefits of home whitening systems. One of them is that when you run out of gel, you just need to buy more gel syringes – this is great for touch-ups, and may allow you to avoid the need of another whitening procedure. Another benefit is that you get to choose when and where you would like to have your whitening done. It may be fun to catch up on the news or reading, while having your teeth whitened, right in the comfort of your home.
